‘Extracurricular activities help students find their niche’

300 youngsters take part in The Hindu-Future India Club Challenge-2018

Participation in competitions and extracurricular activities help students identify their hidden talent and improve their skills, Joint Collector K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu said.

Participating as a chief guest in the valedictory of The Hindu- Future India Club Challenge-2018 at GMR Institute of Technology, Rajam, Mr. Chakradhar Babu advised the students to participate in competitions such as quiz, elocution, and paper presentation and update themselves with the current happenings across the world.

“Be it academics, profession or life, aptitude, behaviour and communication skills help the youth face any challenge confidently,” he said.

GIT Solutions,Visakhaptnam acted as knowledge partner for the event, while GIT Solutions MD S. Rambabu and Director V.Kiran coordinated five events – paper presentation, quiz, elocution, C-coders and creativity— in association with The Hindu and GMRIT teams.

Around 300 students of eight engineering colleges such as GMRIT (Rajam), AITAM (Tekkali), MVGR College of Engineering (Vizianagaram), Lendi Institute Engineering and Technology (Vizianagaram), Anil Neerukonda Institute of Technology and Science (Visakhapatnam), Avanti Engineering College (Tagarapuvalasa), Gayatri Vidya Parishad Engineering College (Visakhapatnam) and Gayathri PG College (Visakhapatnam) took part in the programme.

During the paper presentations on ‘creative way to unhook from smart phones and new teaching methods’, students said that it was time IT companies came with new ideas and technology to overcome the smart phone phobia and addiction.

LIET vice-principal T. Haribabu said that wide debate over the misuse of smart phones was need of the hour.

The winners

Several panels of judges observed the subject, presentation skill, confidence levels and body language in choosing the winners. Lendi Institute of Engineering and Technology emerged overall champion while GMRIT secured the second place.

In paper presentation, GMRIT team emerged winner and LIET students came second. LIET and GMRIT bagged first and second prizes in C-coder competition. In elocution, LIET and Avanti college students bagged the first and second prizes respectively. AITAM and LIET students got the first and second prizes in ‘on-stage performance’ competition.
