Enthusiasm missing among Nalgonda voters

There was hardly any evidence of enthusiasm of achieving statehood for Telangana and exhibiting support to those who worked hard for the cause among voters in this Assembly constituency on Wednesday. A similar trend was witnessed in Kodad and Suryapet constituencies with large number of voters from coastal Andhra region, as is the case in Huzurnagar.

Polling commenced on a slow note and the voting percentage in all these assembly segments and Nakrekal was only 35 per cent in the first four hours.

However, it picked up later and touched 45 per cent at 1 p.m.

“Many people from Nakrekal and the other three constituencies live in Hyderabad, but they did not bother turn up at their villages to vote as they did during local bodies elections. Perhaps, the assembly candidates did not concentrate on getting them for voting as the candidates for local bodies elections did by giving them transportation charges”, felt a polling agent at Narketpalli.

Instances of EVMs not functioning were reported from different places in all these four segments in the first hour but the complaints were rectified immediately. However, some voters with photo identity cards were baffled to find their names missing from the electoral rolls at most of the places. Except for some heated arguments, there were no law and order issues.
