Enthusiasm marks 10-K walk

Shrieks of excitement went up in air even as a dense fog enveloped the Ring Road on Sunday morning.

The presence of popular film stars and singers Ali, Nagur Babu and a host of actresses Nikitha, Madhavi Latha got the crowd on their feet. Singer Mano regaled the audiences with some foot-tapping songs.

The annual 10-K Walk organised by NRI Group of Educational Institutions drew hundreds of enthusiastic men and women from all walks of life. The theme of the walk — Walk for Health, Walk for Guntur — has been expanded to Walk for Andhra Pradesh.

Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao, a fitness freak himself, flagged off the event at Indian Springs School, Vidya Nagar, and encouraged youngsters to take up walking as a regular exercise.

Chairman of the event, Alapati Rajendra Prasad, organisers Koye Subba Rao, MLAs Nakka Anand Babu, G.V. Anjaneyulu and others participated.

After the formal speeches, it’s time for action. The music was on and the fitness trainers got on the stage to give tips to participants before embarking on the gruelling walk. Cultural and dance programmes revved up the ambience.

The walkathon passed through the Ring Road, passed through Shankar Vilas, Hindu College Junction, Collectorate, Kankaragunta RoB, Chebrolu Factory and Gujjangundla before closing on at the school gate.

The competition was divided into four age groups, under 30 years, 31-45 years, 45-60 years and above 60 years.
