The CPI State secretary K. Narayana has regretted that the discussion on the A. P. Reorganisation Bill in the Legislature had turned into a free-for-all.
He said legislators belonging to different parties were only confusing people for their political ends instead of expressing their views on the draft Telangana Bill. “What is required is only a discussion and not voting, as some leaders are making it out be,” he lamented. Referring to TDP’s moves to forge an electoral alliance with the BJP, Mr. Narayana at a press conference here on Tuesday, said Mr. Chandrababu Naidu was pushing himself into a test of fire, much like the one that Sita undergoes in the epic Ramayana. “Such political one-upmanship and opportunism is good for democracy,” he declared, adding that Mr. Naidu would have to convince the people of his sincerity. On the power front, he regretted that Government was going ahead with proposals to slap an additional burden to the tune of over Rs. 32,000 crore on consumers who were already hassled with skyrocketing prices of essential commodities and services.

Referring to the lynching of two forest officials by red sanders smugglers, Mr. Narayana demanded a CBI inquiry into the crime with specific reference to the possibility of collusion by political leaders.
“We know that red sanders smuggling has been going on for decades but are worried about the blatant manner the smuggling continues unhindered,” he stated.
