Consumers’ behaviour plays key role in the field, says media specialist

The Hindu Group’s Business Head (Information and Technology) Arpan Chatterjee on Thursday remarked that students would have a bright future in digital marketing in India with the spread of digital media and its automation in the country.

He said consumers’ behaviour plays a significant role in digital marketing and that observing their pulse would ensure success in the field.

Mr. Chatterjee was delivering a guest lecture on ‘Digital Marketing- Digital Media and its importance on Social Media’ at GMR Institute of Technology- Rajam of Srikakulam district. He said that people used to spend only 30 minutes on their phones till 2012 but that it had gone up to 5.7 hours per day with the availability of smart phones at affordable rates. He said that social media was used by many companies to enhance their businesses.

He expressed displeasure over the misuse of social media and the spreading of fake news. “Press Council of India and other organizations are there to control print media. However, there is no mechanism to control social media,” he said.

He advised youngsters to be cautious while using social media. College vice-principal J.Raja Murugadas spoke.
