Chairman and MD of TGV Group T.G. Venkatesh inaugurated a modern dialysis centre in Gauri Gopal hospital here on Sunday.

The dialysis centre set up by Hyderabad-based Nephroplus, a dialysis service provider, would facilitate effective round-the-clock treatment for patients suffering from kidney failure and also those suffering snakebite and lethal poisoning, Mr. Venkateshsaid.

Nearly 11 per cent of population was suffering from chronic kidney diseases in the world, nephrologist P.L. Venkata Pakki Reddy said.

They included 40 per cent diabetics and 25 per cent of persons with high blood pressure, he stated.

However, dialysis facilities were accessible to only 20 per cent of the patients, he said.

The dialysis unit with imported machines and 10 beds would facilitate at least 1,000 dialysis services each month and ensure longevity of the renal patients, Dr. Reddy said.

Nephroplus vice-president (Operations) Ravi Dikshit said the country had only 1,100 nephrologists.

The company recently conducted Indian Dialysis Olympiad, India’s first sporting event for dialysis patients, redefining the perception about dialysis among patients and care-givers, he recalled.
