Superintendent of Police A. Ravikrishna launched a counselling session for auto-rickshaw drivers here on Wednesday, in the wake of increasing involvement of the drivers in grievous offences.

Of late, several cases were reported related to auto drivers resorting to sexual harassment of women. As many as ten victims, including college students and housewives, have been identified so far. Police recently nabbed the members of one such gang of drivers.

Now, police teams were checking the documents held by auto-drivers and instructed them to essentially wear uniform and display the police registration number on their vehicles, apart from the road transport registration number. The drivers were also advised to carry documents of the vehicle and Aadhaar cards.

The police would take serious action against the drivers who were found driving in inebriated condition and also having co-drivers. The offences occurred when more than one person accompanied the driver. The police are also planning to open rowdy sheets against the drivers who were resorting to such offences.

The SP advised the trade unions representing auto-drivers to discipline the members and also be wary about the infiltration of criminals into their group.
