Marking the World Wetlands Day, the wildlife wing of the Forest department has arranged a field trip for college students at Coringa mangroves here on Tuesday. Over 500 students from different educational institutions in and around the city turned up for the field trip that was a blend of knowledge sharing and entertainment as well.
Events like quiz, essay writing, elocution and drawing on the importance of wetland conservation were arranged for the students. The competitions were followed by a boat trip into the Hope Island, where the students enjoyed the day.
The students divided into small groups and visited the wide range of flora and fauna in the mangrove. A few enthusiasts scaled onto the watch tower arranged for the convenience of the visitors, from where the entire view of the mangrove could be seen. Using their mobile phone gadgets, the students not only posed for selfies with each other, but also captured different species of trees and noted down their botanical names with the help of the forest department staff.
