Cops create flutter at funeral, beat up woman and children

Tension prevailed here on Tuesday night, with residents of Janakarapalle resorting to rasta roko with a dead body in front of the II-Town police station, after two policemen allegedly created a flutter by beating women and children at a funeral.

Two policemen, an APSP constable and his brother, a home guard, reached the locality on a motorbike.

The duo objected to the blocking of the street with a rope by the funeral organisers, leading to heated arguments.

In the melee, the cops allegedly beat up a woman and some children, besides breaking chairs and kicking the coffin.

Later, the residents carried the coffin and staged a rastha roko in front of the police station. For more than an hour, traffic on the busy Bengaluru national highway was affected. The protesters relented after police promised to take action against those behind the ruckus.

II-Town Sub-Inspector Mr. Nettikantaiah said an APSP constable from Tirupati was behind the commotion.
