Congress to launch tour to study drought situation

A PCC delegation led by its vice-president N. Thulasi Reddy and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council C. Ramachandraiah would launch a State-wide tour to gauge the adverse impact of drought on agriculturists and people, Kurnool DCC president B.Y. Ramaiah said on Thursday.

The PCC team would launch its tour in Sanugondla of Gudur mandal in Kurnool district on Friday, he told the media.

The team, comprising former Union Minister Kotla Jayasuryaprakash Reddy, former Minister V. Sailajanath, PCC Kisan Cell president Ravichandra Reddy, MLC M. Sudhakar Babu, and Mr. Ramaiah, would study the extent of migration, drinking water situation, among other aspects, he added.

The team would submit a report to the government after touring all the four districts in the Rayalaseema region, and Nellore and Prakasam districts, Mr. Ramaiah said.

Another PCC team would tour the seven districts in the coastal Andhra region.

He charged the government with failing to initiate drought relief measures.

The APCC would formulate a protest programme to bring to focus the people’s woes, he added.
