Congress playing ‘T’ card for poll gains: YSRC

July 03, 2013 02:23 pm | Updated June 04, 2016 03:06 pm IST - KURNOOL:

YSR Congress Party leader S.V. Mohan Reddy accused the Congress of trying to divide the State for electoral gains.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, he said the Congress high command was getting carried away by the statements of the Congress leaders that the party would win majority of seats in the region if statehood was granted for Telangana. Saying that the Congress high command instructed the Chief Minister and PCC chief to prepare the road map for the division, the YSRC leader wanted to know how the party would distribute water and other resources between the regions.

He said the Congress should implement the recommendation of Srikrishna committee which was set up to look into the Telangana issue.

People in the State, including a majority of them in Telangana districts, are against the bifurcation of State, he said adding that the State’s economy was suffering due to the prevailing uncertainty over the issue.

He said the government should not go by the opinion of MLAs as public opinion was the ultimate authority.

Extremist problem would surface if the State was divided into pieces. Even Telangana will not be far from the unrest, he said.

He criticised the Rayalaseema leaders for their silence on State bifurcation saying the future generations would not pardon them if they mortgaged the interests of the people for the sake of power.

Party leaders Balaraju, Krishna Reddy and other YSRC activists were present.
