Congress aims to win a few seats in Srikakulam District

The Congress is aggressively campaigning in Srikakulam district to win a few Assembly seats in the district and guard the vote bank in other constituencies. The party adopts slow and steady approach to gain in the general elections.

Sources say, the party high command has directed the senior leaders to concentrate keenly on winnable seats such as Rajam, Srikakulam, Tekkali and Patpatnam and other segments. Actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi and PCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy will tour the district on Friday to boost the morale of candidates.

With the directive from the party bosses, the local leaders intensified campaign in the district. Former Minister for Medical and Health and Rajam Congress candidate Kondru Murali Mohan targeted to get 60,000 votes as the figure is said to be sufficient to emerge as victorious in the constituency. Earlier, he won the seat with majority of 26,000 votes. But this time the only target is victory, according to a loyalist of Mr.Murali Mohan.

Congress candidate of Srikakulam Assembly seat Chowdary Satish is heavily banking on the support of government employees who are around 22,000 in the district headquarters. His father Chowdary Purushottam Naidu is APNGOs State Associate president and has influence among the officials and employees. He is trying to woo the youngsters of all the colonies while taking up campaign aggressively in every nook and corner of the district. His target is to achieve 55,000 votes in the segment, sources said.

The Congress also focused on Tekkali where PCC Doctors’ Cell Convener Killi Rammohan is fielded . Mr.Rammohan, husband of Union Minister of State for Communication and Technology Killi Kruparani, is leaving no stone unturned to win the seat in his native place. The high command has assured to extend cooperation to candidates such as Palavalasa Karunakar (Patapatnam), Dola Jagan (Narasannapeta) if they continue the momentum in their respective constituencies.

“The Congress has solid vote bank among downtrodden sections. More over, it has developed the district. So, the beneficiaries would certainly vote for us despite they are unhappy over the division of the State,” said a Congress leader in the district.
