Directs staff to take up alternative measures on a war footing

Comfort talk: Collector S. Satyanarayana interacting with the patients at the general hospital in Kurnool on Saturday.

Collector S. Satyanarayana on Saturday promised to chalk out a foolproof plan of action for alternative power supply arrangements in the Kurnool general hospital, following two recent incidents of disruption that put the patients to inconvenience.

Accompanied by hospital Superintendent J. Veeraswamy, head of Cardiology P. Chandrasekhar, Southern Power Distribution Company of A.P. Ltd. Superintending Engineer Bhargava Ramudu and other officials, Mr. Satyanarayana inspected the tuberculosis ward, gynaecology and the trauma care centres and the electrical transformers.

His visit follows a prolonged power disruption in the hospital from June 21 night to the next morning owing to snapping of the main power line. Pointing at some tree branches perched on electrical lines, he questioned Dr. Veeraswamy on the lack of proper monitoring and the absence of a wing in the hospital to take care of power supply.

On noticing the decades old electric poles in a dilapidated state and the power lines in a zigzag manner, he directed Mr. Bhargava Ramudu to formulate an action plan to streamline the things.

He ordered installation of 20 inverters on a war footing in the wards and appointment of electrical staff to ensure uninterrupted power supply.

Warning the hospital officials of stern action if they were negligent, Mr. Satyanarayana said orders would be issued to doctors to overcome administrative handicaps and treat patients with special care.

He enquired with the patients about the treatment and assured them of augmenting the facilities.

DME visit

Meanwhile, Director of Medical Education Subba Rao too visited the hospital on Saturday and took stock of the situation in the wake of successive power disruptions for 14 hours — from June 21 night and again from Friday night to Saturday morning.
