CM promises to take up water issue with KRMB

‘Will speak to my Karnataka counterpart if necessary’

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday said he would urge the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to release water for Andhra Pradesh.

Replying to a query by The Hindu , Mr. Naidu said he would speak to his Karnataka counterpart if necessary. “Water available is insufficient, but the government is releasing water to meet irrigation and drinking needs,” he said, before joining the ‘Bharat Yatra’ led by Nobel Peace Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi.

10,000 cusecs released

Meanwhile, 10,000 cusecs was released from the Pothireddipadu head regulator in Jupadu Bungalow mandal to Velugodu reservoir by lifting seven gates, Chief Engineer Narayana Reddy said.

Water would be stored in the Velugodu reservoir and then sent to Srisailam Right Branch Canal, escape channel of KC Canal, and Gorakallu reservoir, he added.

An indent for five tmcft of water was placed to release water from the Pothireddipadu head regulator to the downstream areas for catering to the drinking water needs, he said.
