CLP mulls privilege motion against Dadi, Narayana

September 01, 2012 09:37 am | Updated 09:37 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Critical of TDP chief’s silence on his party MLC’s remarks that Kiran and not Kasab should be hanged

The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) is contemplating tabling a notice of breach of privilege against Telugu Desam leader and MLC Dadi Veerabhadra Rao and CPI State secretary K. Narayana for their “disparaging” remarks against Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and the Congress Government.

The CLP was critical of TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s silence on Mr. Veerabhadra Rao’s alleged remarks that the Chief Minister and not Ajmal Kasab, the terrorist, should be hanged. Dr. Narayana, on his part, had cast aspersions on the legislative system in making “sweeping” charges against the legislators and the Congress Government, it said.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Government Chief Whip Gandra Venkataramana Reddy and others expressed concern over the “falling moral standards” of Dr. Narayana in his criticism of the government. The surprising development, however, was the attempt of Left parties to secure Mr. Naidu’s support for their proposed bandh next month.

“How can the Left parties seek support of Mr. Naidu who ordered firing on people against power tariff hike at in 2000?,” he asked.

AICC secretary and MLC P. Sudhakar Reddy said the CLP would explore legal options to restrain the leaders from making such remarks.
