Chittoor gears up for Thai Amavasya today

Thousands of Hindu households are gearing up for the auspicious Thai Amavasya event falling Tuesday. Chittoor district, which shares border with Tamil Nadu from Kuppam to Satyavedu, observes this Thai Amavasya of the Tamil almanac, dedicated to dead ancestors, siblings, parents and relatives. Special prayers, rituals and offerings will be made on this day for the departed souls.

Members of the various households take a holy bath in sacred water bodies and waterfalls.

In Chittoor district, the waterfalls at Talakona, Moolakona and Konai Falls will witness heavy throng of people to have holy bath.

Several households from the district leave for Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu to observe this Thai Amavasya and render ablutions at seashore. Traditional families from Tamil Nadu settled in the district will also reach Kanyakumari, Dhanushkodi and Devipattinam in Tamil Nadu on this day.

Meanwhile, the temple of Lord Vayulingeswara at Srikalahasti is bedecked for the event.

The presiding deities of Lord Siva and his consort Goddess Shakti will be worshipped with special prayers, while their processional idols will be taken to Bharadwaja Theertham on the outskirts of the town for giving them a special bath and rituals.
