The police on Wednesday produced the Chinese national, Chen Yi Fian, accused in a red sanders smuggling case, in the second additional district magistrate court, which remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days. Chen, who was arrested by the Chittoor Task Force in New Delhi on May 30, was shifted to Nellore Central Jail.

Madanapalle II-Town Circle Inspector Hanumantha Naik told The Hindu that two weeks ago, following up on leads provided by red sanders smuggler Dabba Seenu of Chittoor district who was arrested on the outskirts of Madanapalle, the Chittoor Task Force traced Chen to a hotel in New Delhi, and seized 10 tonnes of red sanders logs from a godown in Faridabad.

Police said that Chen confessed his involvement in smuggling. “In all, 21 names have been included in the list of accused in red sanders cases. Two persons—Chen and Dabba Seenu—have been arrested. Special parties are working out ways to nab the remaining suspects,” he said.
