Chennai-based red sanders smuggler held

The Puthalapattu police on Friday afternoon nabbed a Chennai-based international red sanders smuggler Maddi Kumar (45) at Rangampeta cross between Kothakota and Puthalapattu, 30 km from here, after intercepting an SUV.

Based on a tip-off, the police personnel waylaid Kumar while he was on his way to Chennai. He was wanted in 15 cases pertaining to red sanders smuggling. He was remanded at Chittoor prison.

Interestingly, the police had brought him to the local court in Chittoor on a two-wheeler covering a distance of 20 km. For remand, Kumar was shifted to the prison in his own SUV, accompanied by a policeman.

Meanwhile, the Mulakalacheruvu police led by Circle Inspector Hrishikesh seized a small quantity of Srigandham (white sandal) and nabbed a youth at Gundlapalle village of Peddatippasamudram mandal of Madanapalle division. A two-wheeler was also confiscated.
