Changes in norms for compensation sought

Conditions prescribed for AgriGold suicide victims by the G.O. not practical, says Acawa

AgriGold Customers’ and Agents’ Welfare Association (Acawa) president Muppalla Nageswara Rao on Friday sought modifications in the Government Order issued for payment of compensation to those who committed suicide following a series of scams involving the AgriGold group of companies.

Speaking to mediapersons here, he said the G.O. had stated that those seeking compensation for death owing to the scam should get a copy of the FIR and the post-mortem report.

“Many family members were so traumatised by the death that they failed to register an FIR and get a post-mortem report. We have brought this to the notice of Planning Board vice-chairman Kutumba Rao and Additional DGP Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, who are functioning as government representatives on this issue,” Mr. Nageswara Rao said. He said those clauses were practically impossible to follow given the state of mind of the family members of the deceased.

Mr. Rao said the association had asked the government to treat heart attacks and depression as suicide and remove the clauses for the benefit of their kin.

Online auction

Mr. Rao said the association was hoping that the online auction of the assets would begin by June-end. “The High Court has given the green signal for the auction of properties worth less than ₹50 crore by e-portal. It will take place by this month end and HC has expressed happiness over the demo of the functioning of the portal,” he said. The e-auction would take place as per the directives of the AP High Court and a separate G.O. would be issued soon.

He said the association was going ahead with meetings of customers and agents in various districts and the State executive would meet at Rajahmahendravaram on June 11.
