The five-day long indefinite fast by three BJP legislators, including State president G. Kishan Reddy was called off on Wednesday following an appeal by Ravi Shankar Prasad, senior party leader and deputy leader in Rajya Sabha.

Mr. Prasad, who was deputed by BJP national president, Rajnath Singh, visited Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) and urged the party cadres to break their fast and take the fight against power tariff hike to the streets.

The three legislators called off the fast after they were offered lime juice by Mr. Prasad.

They were shifted to NIMS after the police forcibly removed them from the hunger strike camp at Old MLA quarters on Tuesday.

Earlier, Mr. Prasad held discussions with senior leaders including Bandaru Dattareya, Ch.Vidysagar Rao and others and also spoke on telephone with BJP’s all India organising secretary, Ram Lal.

He said Andhra Pradesh once used to be a good State for investment, industries, IT and growth. But it was literally crying for power now, he said while blaming inefficient governance for the problem.
