‘Bank less on others for cow ghee’

The AP Assembly Legislative Committee on Government Assurances on Thursday advised the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) to involve local dairy producers for procurement of cow ghee, instead of depending on neighbouring States.

Reviewing TTD’s performance from 2005 to 2012, the committee stressed the need for promoting local dairies to address future demand.

“At present, TTD procures 60 per cent of cow ghee from Karnataka and 30 per cent from Maharashtra. Involving local entities will encourage the industry,” Committee Chairman and Rajanagaram Legislator Pendurthi Venkatesh said.

Other issues reviewed by the committee included allotment of house sites to TTD employees, grant of scholarships to BC students, allowing unidentified people through the Mahadwaram at Tirumala and Pasupudhara projects.

Chintala differs

Meanwhile, YSRC Legislator Chintala Ramachandra Reddy (Piler), who is also a member of the committee, expressed differences with it on some issues.

He, along with invitee Legislator Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy (Chandragiri), maintained the scrapping of scholarships for BC students had denied them access to quality education.
