The United Kingdom has evinced keen interest in signing a memorandum of understanding with the State Energy Conservation Mission for collaboration in energy efficiency and conservation measures to reduce the carbon footprint.
The MoU envisaged sharing expertise, knowledge and best practices besides encouraging innovation to bring about effective measures to achieve energy efficient growth. It could also create opportunities for business collaboration between the UK and the State as the former had an advanced low carbon technology available.
The proposal came up for discussion during Energy Secretary Ajay Jain’s meeting with UK’s Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change Edward Davey who was in the State recently. Mr. Jain welcomed proposal claiming it would benefit the State in fostering low carbon growth without any upfront financial investment by the government or the power utilities.

Mr. Davey appreciated the State’s initiatives in energy efficiency/conservation measures as also the efforts in promotion of renewable energy sources. The State, he said, was among the front runners in promotion of renewable energy like solar and wind power.
