AP urges Centre to help tide over financial crisis

Officials explain to the Centre that the State loses 22 per cent of its revenue from Hyderabad

The Andhra Pradesh Finance Department officials have put the onus on the Centre for bailing out the State from its precarious financial position as a result of State bifurcation.

The officials who attended the meeting of Finance Ministers of various States convened by the Union Finance Minister as part of pre-Union Budget exercise at Delhi on Monday utilised the opportunity to explain the financial situation of the State.

Explaining the financial loss to Andhra Pradesh in the wake of division, sources said that, it was explained to the Centre that the State had lost 22 per cent of its revenue from Hyderabad along with facts and figures. Reminding the Centre its promise to help the State to tide over any financial crisis on account of division, the officials said the State would require at least Rs.15,000 crore temporary aid. They requested the Centre to make such a provision for Andhra Pradesh in the Union Budget.

The Centre was also urged to relax the FRBM norms this year to enable the State raise more loans. Otherwise it would become impossible for Andhra Pradesh to withstand the financial crisis and move ahead.

All the packages promised to Andhra Pradesh should be sanctioned and required funds should be allocated in the Union Budget. A detailed report related to State’s financial position was submitted to the Centre, a senior official said.
