AP to get historical places, forest

The Central government’s move for bifurcation of two States i.e, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, will not only shift a total of 211 habitations encompassing little over 1.16 lakh population, which mainly comprise of Adivasis from Khammam district to Andhra Pradesh, but it will also separate historical structures of the bygone era and famous tourist spots from Bhadrachalam and Palvancha divisions.

Several historical structures of Kakatiya and Nizam’s era besides, historical temples and places of tourist attraction in both the divisions will be given to Andhra Pradesh.

A historical place such as Rekapalli, Pochavaram which is the starting point of river cruise to Papikondalu, and historical Sri Ramagiri temple in VR Puram mandal, Perantalapalli, the popular tourist spot in Velerupadu mandal, will be excluded from the district from June 2, the appointed day.

This apart, a vast swathe of forest land including Papikondalu Wildlife Sanctuary will become part of Andhra Pradesh after the State bifurcation, sources said.

Khammam which topped the list of districts in the State, having largest forest cover, is likely to forego the coveted status. The vast tribal sub-plan (TSP) area of 16,029 km in the district is poised to dwindle following the Centre’s decision to include as many as 211 habitations under 136 revenue villages of the Agency areas of the district in AP.
