A.P. to conduct separate EAMCET

January 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - HYDERABAD:

With the recent attempts of Andhra Pradesh government to convince TS government for holding a joint Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) not bearing fruit, the former has decided to hold a separate exam. According to sources, a decision to this effect would be taken at the Cabinet meeting scheduled to be held on February 2. The sources said that there was no other alternative for AP government but hold a separate EAMCET test as TS government was unyielding on its stance of not having a common entrance exam. The sources said Kakinada JNTU would be entrusted with the responsibility to conduct EAMCET in Andhra Pradesh.

Following announcement of EAMCET date by APSCHE, Telangana government charged its AP counterpart with acting unilaterally and subsequently announced its own schedule.

Both the governments took the issue to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan who had advised them to act according to the provisions of AP State Reorganisation Act. While the AP government maintained that APSCHE alone was authorised to conduct a common EAMCET test as per the Act, the Telangana government disputed this interpretation and maintained that Telangana State Council for Higher Education was well within its right to conduct EAMCET separately.
