AP Assembly may get captive solar power plant

September 13, 2012 02:09 am | Updated 02:38 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Andhra Pradesh Assembly is considering a proposal to set up a captive solar power plant on its premises to tide over the power crisis in future.

Impressed by the functioning of the Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant of 25 KW at the new Assembly building in Jaipur, the State Assembly is also planning to replicate its success. Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited had established the solar power plant at the legislature building.

According to sources in the Legislature Secretariat, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy had sent a communication to Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar some time ago offering to provide the much-needed incentive to establish solar energy plant on the Legislature premises.

“We have positively responded to the proposal and sought the assistance of the Union government in establishing the plant. Our buildings are ideal for setting up of solar panels. As we cannot touch the old Assembly building, which has been declared heritage structure, installing panels on the new building was suitable,” sources said.

Incentive

What enthused the Speaker was the willingness of the Centre to provide impressive incentive to establish the plant. As of now, the Legislature has a dedicated sub-station catering to the power needs of the entire complex.

Sources said solar power plants had been installed in Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi also. “Very soon, we plan to invite the experienced firms to give us a demonstration so that the process can be started soon to make AP Assembly a rode model in promoting generation of non-conventional energy,” sources said.
