Expressing concern at the number of road accidents and lives lost, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of the A.P. State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), A.K. Khan, said being vigilant every moment at the wheel was something that drivers had to inculcate as a way of life.
Recalling that a majority of accidents took place due to human error, he said defensive driving was the need of the hour. “You cannot say that you were careful on the road and did not commit a mistake. It takes effort to avoid a situation even when the driver of the vehicle coming opposite is in the wrong,” he told drivers at the Ranigunj depot, after inaugurating an ‘Accident-Free Week’, in the presence of Transport Commissioner Sanjay Kumar. It was a proud moment for Md. Kaleemuddin, a driver of the Musheerabad I depot here when he was felicitated for having an unblemished, accident-free record of 34 years. Fourteen others were given Road Safety Awards. At the corporation level, Md. Ibrahim of Bodhan depot had a record of 35 years.
