Anantapur MLA-elect gets down to business

May 22, 2014 12:08 am | Updated 12:08 am IST - ANANTAPUR:

Asks officials to repair the equipment at the ‘National Park’, his pet project

The recently elected Anantapur MLA seems to have begun his job in earnest if his actions of the last few days are anything to go by.

Vaikuntam Prabhakar Chowdary, the newly elected TDP legislator from Anantapur, who is credited by many for developing the urban infrastructure during his term as municipal chairman in the mid 90’s, already visited his pet project, a large public recreation space and park christened ‘National Park’.

The park was conceptualised and completed during his term, which turned out to be a huge draw for the public, although it was a heavy drain on the finances of the municipality. The next municipal chairmen and mayors, all belonging to Congress, paid little interest to the maintenance of the park, wasting the existing infrastructure.

Allegations of land-grabbing also surfaced and Mr. Prabhakar Chowdary himself fought for action against the land-grabbers. Now, after becoming a legislator for the first-time, he visited the park and directed the municipal officials to immediately take up the cleaning of the park.

He has also directed civic officials to ensure that all the equipments purchased more than a decade ago are repaired to a working condition. Heeding to his directions, the officialdom has moved and the cleaning and repair work were under way in the park.
