Amit Shah to attend BJP south zonal meet

Bharatiya Janata Party national president Amit Shah will participate in a day-long meeting of the party’s office-bearers, legislators and MPs from southern States, in Bengaluru on Sunday. BJP national general secretary P. Muralidhar Rao, who is also in-charge of the party’s State affairs, told The Hindu that about 1,000 delegates were expected to participate in the south zonal meeting held mainly to review the progress of the mass contact programme that aims at building rapport with newly enrolled party members. The meeting would also review the preparations for the study camps to be held for active members.

The district presidents and State-level office-bearers of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, and Puducherry are participating in the meeting.

Special focus on

‘weak’ States

Meanwhile, the meeting would also focus on strengthening the party’s organisations in States where it does not have a strong presence. “In Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana where we do not have a strong presence. Mr. Shah will hold a separate session with the members of the core committees from these States to discuss the ways and means of strengthening the party,” he said.

According to sources, the BJP State leaders may also hold consultations with Mr. Shah on the party’s strategies for elections to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.
