Spirit matters: Masters athletes taking part in the meet at Nandyal in Kurnool district on Sunday.

Several middle-aged and elderly sportspersons, including many in their dotage, took part in the Masters Athletic Meet at Nandyal in the district on Sunday.

The event, at the Municipal High School grounds near the Nandyal Government Hospital, witnessed sportspersons between 35 and 90 years of age taking part in running, long jump, high jump, shot put, and discus and javelin throw.

Member of Parliament S.P.Y. Reddy, the chief guest, said masters sportspersons, without being discouraged because of age, had found their calling in sports. Witnessing such an event for the first time, Mr. Reddy urged everyone to take inspiration from participants and lead a healthy life. Later, international masters sportsman G. Govinda Reddy, of Adoni in the district, was felicitated.
