Police seized 1.068 kg gold, 35.568 kg silver and Rs. 7.39 lakh from three persons of Tamil Nadu, who could not produce valid documentation, said Kurnool Superintendent of Police A. Ravikrishna on Wednesday.
Kurnool IV Town Circle Inspector G.V. Nagaraja Rao and Sub-Inspectors Jeevan, Nagalakshmaiah, Srinivasa Naik and Kiran Babu and staff made the seizure from bags being carried by M.S. Naresh, 33, and R. Chandrasekhar, 43, both of Salem, and N. Murugesan, 44, of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, near Bellary chowrasta in Kurnool town late on Tuesday night, the SP told the media on Wednesday.
A gold block, gold rings and ear studs, several blocks of silver and silver anklets and cash were seized, Mr. Ravikrishna said. The trio could not produce any valid documentation and the seized gold, silver and cash were handed over to the Income Tax Department, he added. The three persons frequent Kurnool, sell gold and silver blocks to gold shops without any bills, then take the ornaments made and sell them at Coimbatore, the SP said. A case was registered and investigation was undertaken, he said.

Kurnool DSP D.V. Ramana Murthy and CI Nagaraja Rao were part of the team that effected the seizure.
