Steps on to bring back A.P. workers from Saudi Arabia: Minister

Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Indians Affairs Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy on Tuesday said the government was taking all steps to bring back thousands of migrants from Andhra Pradesh stranded in Saudi Arabia.

Talking to reporters after inaugurating a Rs. 40-lakh Urban Child Development Project office at Markapur town in Prakasam district, he said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had taken up the plight of the construction workers from AP because of the crisis in Saudi Arabia following fall in the crude oil prices.

‘Deal with only registered agents’

They were being provided food and shelter, he said, adding that steps were initiated for their safe return to their native places.

The Minister said it was unfortunate that women from the State leave in search of greener pastures in the Gulf countries and get duped by erring recruitment agents.

It would be better on their part to plan their travel only through registered recruitment agents and after crosschecking with the NRI affairs wing, Mr. Raghunatha Reddy said.
