The YSR Congress leadership wants the late Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy’s daughter, Sharmila, to cover more number of villages and extensively interact with people during the ‘Maro Praja Prasthanam’ padayatra commencing from October 18 from Idupulapaya in Kadapa district.
Tentatively, the leadership has identified the route for her yatra, which is likely to take her to 16 districts covering over 125 constituencies. The effort is to see that she visits more villages deviating from the main roads so as to get a first hand feel of the ground realties.

Leaders maintain that the yatra may cross 3,000 km and extend beyond six months. On the first day of the yatra, she will walk a distance of 14 km from Idupulapaya to Rajiv Nagar colony in Vempalli town.
In Kadapa alone, she will touch 26 villages and cover a distance of 76 km before entering Anantapur on the sixth day.
According to Tirupati MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, in the first phase she will touch Kadapa, Anantapur and Kurnool districts.

At a press conference along with the party’s coordination committee member Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy and youth wing chief Putha Pratap Reddy on Sunday, the YSR Congress MLA said the mass contact programme would be a low key affair without any fanfare.
He said the padayatra would be a unique one in many ways as it would be a protest march to highlight the failures of the State government and its ‘nexus’ with the main opposition, the Telugu Desam Party.

“The 3,000 km-padayatra of Ms Sharmila will turn a new leaf in the polity of the State as no woman has so far ventured into such a programme and exposing the opportunistic politics of collusion between the Congress and TDP will be the focal point,” he said.
