Nanduri Sambasiva Rao, a 1984 batch IPS officer, assumed office as in charge DGP here on Saturday. He took charge from A.P.’s first DGP J.V. Ramudu at the fixed muhurtam at 12.20 p.m. in his camp office.
A native of Prakasam district, Mr. Sambasiva Rao was serving as APSRTC Vice-Chairman and MD prior to the new appointment. After Mr. Ramudu handed over charge to Mr. Sambasiva Rao, the police officers gave him the traditional farewell by pulling the vehicle of the outgoing State police chief — decorated with colourful flowers — up to his house. Speaking on the occasion, he recalled his childhood days at Narsimpalli of Bathalapalli mandal in Anantapur district. “My parents are not educated and I wanted to become a farmer and spend most of the time in fields,” he recalled.
Mr. Sambasiva Rao thanked the Chief Minister for giving him the opportunity to lead the police force.
