Sakhambari Utsavam celebrated at Srisailam

Goddess Sri Bhramaramba Devi’s idol in the Srisailam temple, the ‘dhwaja sthambam’ and the temple premises were grandly decorated with a variety of vegetables and fruits as part of the Sakhambari Utsavam on Tuesday.

Priests performed a special puja and archana to the deity after the Suprabhata Seva to Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy as per agama sastra.

The formations of Sri Ganapathi, Sivalingam, peacock, swan, lotus, parrot, tortoise and a giant lizard with vegetables and fruits drew the attention of the devotees.

As per the Devi Bhagavatham, the Goddess presented a variety of fruits and vegetables to the people during a severe drought created by demon Durgamudu.

According to priests, performing Sakhambari Utsavam would result in copious rainfall and good crop yield.

The priests also performed puja to sage Sri Vedavyas on Vyasa Pournami also known as Ashadha Pournami and Guru Poornima in the Srisailam temple under the aegis of the Endowments Department and the Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishad.

Priests performed archana to sage Vyasa’s portrait after Ganapathi pooja and recited Vedic chants and offered Guru Vandanam.

Sage Vedavyas classified the Vedas into four, wrote the Mahabharatham , 18 puranas, including Brahmapuranam, Padmapuranam, Sivapuranam and Lingapuranam besides 18 upa puranams , the priests said.

Srisailam temple Executive Officer Narayan Bharath Gupta participated.
