Quota for Kapus opposed

November 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated November 17, 2021 03:05 am IST - ONGOLE:

The State government’s move to include the “politically dominant” Kapu community in the list of backward castes has been vehemently opposed by members of the Backward Classes(BCs), considered as a traditional vote bank of the ruling TDP.

“The BCs list is no general bogie for inclusion of more and more communities in the list without any rhyme or reason,” contended the BC leaders while taking part in a round-table conference here on Sunday.

The number of communities in the BC list had already gone up from 93 in 2004 to 140 communities now, diluting the quota for the BCs , they complained.

BC Sankshema Sangam Prakasam district president B. Chiranjeevi said that they stoutly opposed the proposal to constitute a commission to examine the feasibility of including the Kapus in the BCs list.

The government should first consider the demands of Rajakas for inclusion in the SC list and Vadderas in the ST list before taking up Kapus' demand, BC leader G.Veerabhadrachari said.
