Put back Gandhi picture, demand Congress leaders

January 17, 2017 01:05 am | Updated 01:05 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has demanded that the picture of Mahatma Gandhi, which was removed from the calendar and diary of the Khadi Village Industries Commission (KVIC), be put back (reprinted) immediately.

In a press release here on Monday, PCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy and vice-president N. Tulasi Reddy said replacing the picture of Mahatma Gandhi with a charkha with a similar picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a perfect example of Mr. Modi’s penchant for propaganda. His focus was more on propaganda rather than progress, they alleged.

Alleging that Mr Modi along with the Bharatiya Janata Party and the RSS was in league with Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, the PCC leaders said the removal of the pictures from the calendar and diary were part of a conspiracy to erase the Father of the Nation from public memory. The KVIC officials who printed Mr Modi’s picture in a corner last year filled the entire calendar and the diary cover this year with his pictures, the leaders pointed out.
