To effectively address the growing concerns of the NRIs, the Nellore police opened a Skype account with the ID ‘sp_nellore’ to speed up the process of the grievances and problems of non-resident citizens living in Dubai, UAE, the U.S., the UK and other countries.

It is for the first time in the State that the Nellore police opened the Skype platform for reaching out to the NRIs at their convenience.

From now on, the aggrieved NRIs can directly use the Skype video chat and get their problems solved regarding delay in police passport verifications of their family members or relatives, land disputes and cases, dowry harassment and so on.

“This became necessary as most of these residents abroad are not able to come here to represent their grievances. Moreover, they live in different time zones. Now, they can make effective use of the Skype video chats to solve their problems in real time,” said Vishal Gunni, SP.

Already, several persons living abroad have been contacting the district police through social media platforms and police contact numbers to represent their problems but the Skype account is expected to be a live and reliable alternative to take them into full confidence and redress their issues.

In addition to this, separate accounts are opened for other social media sites as well.

The account IDs are: ‘sp_nellore’ for Skype, ‘SpNellore’ for twitter, ‘spnellore’ for instagram and ‘NELLOREPOLICE’ for Youtube channel.

Releasing the account IDs here on Thursday, Mr. Vishal said the social media platforms had been moving closer to the people across all sections and the whatsapp, facebook and instagram had proved to be the most accessed among them. “The people can constructively use the channels to get police help in real time,” he added.

The Nellore police whatsapp account had received 294 complaints till now.

Of these, FIRs were registered in 24 cases while 28 other complaints were pending.

Other complaints were closed as the issues were small and redressed immediately.

The SPNellore Facebook page has also got nearly 20,000 followers so far with the police getting a lot of information on the grievances and public problems of varied nature.
