Pilgrim flow picks up in Kurnool district

August 15, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 09:23 am IST - KURNOOL:

Flow of Krishna Pushkaram pilgrims to the pushkar ghats at Pathalaganga and Lingalagattu in Srisailam and Sangameswaram in Kurnool district picked up substantially on Sunday.

People took a holy dip in the Krishna and had ‘darshan’ of Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy and Sri Bhramaramba Devi in the Srisailam temple, after waiting in queues for nearly two hours. The pilgrims offered ‘pinda pradanam’ at the upper ghats at Lingalagattu, Pathalaganga and Sangameswaram.

As the Sangameswaram temple was submerged under water, pilgrims had darshan of Sri Uma Devi and Sri Maheswara Swamy at a temporary temple built nearby and offered ‘pinda pradanam’ near the Sangameswara and Lalitha Devi ghats.

The pilgrim traffic increased after officials lifted the curbs and permitted entry of private vehicles into Srisailam from Sunday night.

A food court and 20 stalls were arranged near the second Pushkar Nagar at Srisailam. Pilgrims savoured Rayalaseema dishes such as ‘Uggani bajji’, ‘ragi sangati’ etc. in the food court, ‘pani puri’ and fast foods in a chat bhandar and soft drinks and fruit juices.
