Number of candidates runs into thousands

Final figure to emerge after the official candidates get B-Form and after the verification process and after the last day of withdrawal of nominations scheduled on March 24.

A total of 6,192 candidates file their nominations for 705 the Mandal Parishad Territorial Committees (MPTC) election while 777 candidates decided to contest the 50 Zilla Parishad Territorial Committee (ZPTC) seats in the district.

However, the final figure would only emerge after the verification process and after the last day of withdrawal of nominations scheduled on March 24. The polling will be held on April 4, while counting will be held on April 8.

Since Thursday was the last day for nominations, the process went on till late in the night at Zilla Parishad hall. On a single day, a total of 619 candidates filed their nominations during the past three days, there were only 158 nominations.

The delay was also due to the lack of awareness among the candidates on filling up forms. The officials had to set up a helpdesk to guide the candidates before reaching the returning officer.

Since the political parties are yet to give B-Forms, scores of people from each party filed their nominations. The party-wise tally is - 253 candidates from TRS filed their nominations for 50 ZPTCs seats while 216 from Congress, 124 from TDP, 71 from BJP, 25 YSRCP and 88 others filed their nominations.

A clear picture would emerge once the parties give B-Form to their official candidates.
