Former Minister and Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham who is contesting from Prattipadu Assembly segment as an independent candidate began his electioneering on Wednesday by taking out a huge rally.
He started his campaign after offering prayers to Lord Hanuman and other deities at his residential complex and then went to SC colony in a huge rally where he garlanded the statue of
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Addressing the residents, Mr. Padmanabham said though he was offered tickets from many political parties to contest from his hometown Prathipadu, he was disgusted with the present day politics, where horse-trading and corruption were taking the centre stage. Expressing confidence to win the polls, he said that he would remain ‘independent’ even after the elections.
The veteran leader had launched the Kapunadu party about two decades ago. During his four-decade political career, he had shifted loyalty to different outfits. The four-time MLA and one-time MP had also held ministerial berths in both the TDP and the Congress government under NTR and M. Chenna Reddy as the Chief Ministers.
After losing the polls in 1994, he vowed not to contest from Prathipadu segment and later associated himself with the Kapunadu and later with the BJP.
