Leopard sighted again on Tirumala

Published - August 16, 2010 01:29 am IST - TIRUMALA

The leopard that has been eluding the trap of the wildlife authorities for the past two weeks was sighted for the second time on Sunday, in less than a span of three days on the Tirumala Ghat Road.

According to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Divisional Forest officer ( DFO ) K. Pradeep the leopard was sighted at the 64th culvert on the Old Ghat Road near the Hanuman idol — where the TTD's deer park is also located.

The efforts of the forest personnel to secure the pug marks of the animal proved futile owing to pouring rains.

Appeal

Mr. Pradeep appealed to the devotees not to panic as the authorities were consistently monitoring the situation.

He expressed the hope that the leopard would soon walk into the live traps set up at five different points.
