Is Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K.E. Krishnamurthy unhappy that Ministers did not get a chance to take on the Opposition during the debate on the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) Bill in the Assembly?

During an informal chat with the media in his chambers in the Assembly on Tuesday, Mr. Krishnamurthy said that he wanted to speak, but was advised against it by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who replied to the debate on the bill.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that he had requested Mr. Naidu to give top priority to meet the irrigation needs of Rayalaseema region since it had lost out on capital. He said that he was able to convince the agitators in Rayalaseema region by pointing out that Kurnool was not centrally located and that the capital should be at a central place. To express solidarity with the decision to locate capital in Guntur, a convention of backward classes was being planned in the proposed capital region, he added.

It might take two years to lay the foundation stone for the capital city as the designs and other aspects would have to be readied.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the Chief Minister should exert pressure on the Union government for getting Special Category status for the State.
