Gang of thieves nabbed, Rs. 6 lakh worth property seized

The Dhone police arrested a four-member gang which allegedly committed thefts in four temples, three shops and a house in Dhone and adjoining areas, and recovered stolen property worth Rs. 6.12 lakh, including panchaloha idols, gold and silver jewels and temple bells from them on Saturday.

The police arrested Palagiri Swamy alias Babai, 40, of Bhadrachalam town of Telangana; Ramawath Vinod Kumar Naik alias Siva, 23, of Avuladatta village in Anantapur district; Uddanti Rambabu alias Amar, 35, of Chejerla in Guntur district; and Shaik Chand Basha, 48, of Nandyal in Kurnool district, near a weighbridge on Gooty road in Dhone, Kurnool Superintendent of Police A. Ravikrishna told the media here.

Three panchaloha idols of Lord Srirama, Sita Devi and Lakshmana, a silver crown, six brass temple bells, brass lamp stands and a television set were recovered from the accused. Twenty-one kg of copper wire, 1,150 metres of aluminium wire, 350 metres cable wire and 35 litres of transformer oil were also recovered from them, the SP said.
