Collector Siddarth Jain on Thursday told the officials of various departments to make Chittoor one of the most congenial destinations for setting up of industries by expediting the process of issuance of permits and providing them the required infrastructure and support.
Addressing the District Industries Promotion Committee meeting here, the Collector said that the district, flanked by Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, emerged as a highly viable region for entrepreneurs to set up their industrial units.
Mr Siddarth Jain reviewed the progress of the district on the industrial front, including the number of entrepreneurs who had applied for lands to set up their units, the number of files cleared, the paraphernalia created for the eligible applicants and the nature of products. He scrutinised the files pertaining to non-issuance of permits to industries and was apprised of the reasons in such cases.

The collector said that the officials concerned should prompt the interested entrepreneurs to change their specifications, if necessary, to suit the norms prescribed in the state policy to promote industries.
Representatives of about a dozen companies from textiles, polymers and plastic sectors had submitted their applications to the Collector, during the meeting, seeking land allotment. The collector cleared four files and instructed the officials to take immediate steps for starting of industries for which permissions had already been granted.

Later, during the District Skill Development Meeting, the collector instructed the officials to prepare an action plan with an objective to provide employment to about 50,000 youths in the district. He said that the skill development exercise should involve the students of engineering colleges, Industrial Training Institutes and various other colleges in the district.
Sri Padmavati Mahila University vice-chancellor Prof Durga Bhavani, representatives from the SV University and various engineering colleges attended the meeting.
