Rainwater entering the strong room where the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were stored remained a cause of concern for the candidates who contested from the Kakinada Parliamentary constituency and the Kakinada and Prattipadu Assembly segments.
As unprecedented rain lashed the district on Friday, rainwater entered the strong room in a newly constructed building in the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University here. There was a gap between two beams through which rainwater seeped in.
The RDO, B.R. Ambedkar, alerted the District Collector and Election Officer Neetu Prasad.

The room was opened in the morning in the presence of the candidates. The officials and the candidates found a sheet of rainwater in the room. The officials opened the boxes containing the EVMs and found there was no damage to the machines.
In Hyderabad, Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal clarified that though water entered the room, the EVMs were not affected as they were not stacked on the floor.
