Notwithstanding the party high command’s directive to him to not to go ahead with his controversial ‘Odarpu Yatra’, Congress MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Sunday said he would continue with the tour.

“Who said that yatra would not continue ?” he told reporters in Anantapur.

He, however, did not reveal whether he will go ahead with the tour in Srikakulam district from June 8 as scheduled.

Several Congress MLAs and other leaders, who met Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy in the last few days, are understood to have told him not to defy the party high command.

After a meeting with Union Law Minister and in-charge of Congress Affairs in Andhra Pradesh Veerappa Moily, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy had told media persons in New Delhi last week that the high command has allowed him to undertake the yatra.

His claim was, however, dismissed by Mr. Moily, who said the Kadapa MP should not continue with his tour.

Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy had defied the high command’s instruction and went ahead to tour Warangal district in Telangana region, which sparked off violent protests from the Telangana agitators forcing him to abandon the yatra.

Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy’s ‘Odarpu Yatra’ is to console the family members of those who allegedly committed suicide or died of shock following the death of his father, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in a chopper crash last year.
