The Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) would be launched in Andhra Pradesh soon, Director-General of Police J.V. Ramudu said on Thursday.
The Centrally-sponsored CCTNS would improve the efficiency of the police service delivery, the DGP told the media after laying foundation stone for a CID regional office on APSP II Battalion premises in Kurnool. The Police Department was utilising technology to track down criminals, he said.
The Central government selected 10 technological institutes in the country, of which three were in A.P., Mr. Ramudu stated. Passport was being issued within a week with speedier police verification in the State.

The Police Department would recruit 3,000 personnel soon out of 6,000 posts approved by the government, the DGP said. Considering the facilities available for training new recruits, 3,000 personnel would be recruited soon and an equal number in the second spell, he added. Nearly 45 per cent of vacancies in all the districts would be filled in the first spell.
The Crime Investigation Department regional office building would be built with Rs. 3.50 crore granted by the Centre and the State. It was the fourth in the State after Guntur, Visakhapatnam, and Rajahmundry, Mr. Ramudu said. He also unveiled a plaque to renovate the kalyanamantapam on APSP Battalion premises.
