Couple poison kids, attempt suicide

Two children died while their parents are battling for life in an alleged suicide pact in Punganur town of Chittoor district on Friday.

Nagaraju and Alamelamma, in their 30s, who were eking out livelihood as farm workers, reportedly ran into huge debts. Unable to bear alleged harassment from the money lenders, the couple reportedly resorted to suicide by gulping a poisonous substance, which was also administered to their son Harish (11) and daughter Revathi (4).

Neighbours rushed to their rescue and shifted all the four to Government Area Hospital at Madanapalle.

The children were declared brought dead, and the couple are in the intensive care unit, and likely to be shifted to Bengaluru.
