Cong Ministers, MPs from Telangana meet to decide strategy

Congress Ministers, MPs and MLAs hailing from Telangana region met in Hyderabad today to discuss their future strategy on the statehood issue.

The group of Congress MLAs and MLCs who returned from a four-day trip to New Delhi after meeting several top leaders of AICC, including Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, briefed them about their deliberations at the residence of state Panchayat Raj Minister K Jana Reddy, sources said.

The Telangana Congress leaders have decided to write a letter to the party high command explaining the current political developments in the region on the statehood issue and also urging it to take note of the ongoing non-cooperation agitation.

Mr. Jana Reddy later appealed to the Telangana supporters to give up the non-cooperation agitation, they began on February 17, “in the interests of the State.”

Sources said the Congress MPs from the region might demand tabling of a Bill for creation of Telangana state on the opening day of Budget session of Parliament on Monday.

About seven ministers, three MPs and a handful of MLAs attended the meeting, sources said.
